President of STF launches new edition of Suprema - Revista de Estudos Constitucionais

2023-06-30

The president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Chief Justice Rosa Weber, launched another edition of Suprema - Revista de Estudos Constitucionais on Friday (June 30), at the closing session of the first semester of the 2023 Judicial Year. The biannual publication features unpublished articles, translations and reviews on contemporary issues related to the legal field and innovates by including Artificial Intelligence among the topics covered in this volume.

According to Justice Rosa Weber, this new edition carries on the proposal to maintain a high-level scientific dialogue, always from the perspective of the promotion and plural dissemination of knowledge, with free content and distribution and availability in digital format on the STF website. "It is an enriching read that I recommend to everyone," she emphasized.

The new edition features 12 unpublished scientific articles and a translation that analyzes the potential impact of Artificial Intelligence on legal practice. It also presents a report by special guest Luciano Pegoraro, professor of Comparative Law at the University of Salamanca and affiliated to the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, Mexico. Of the 12 selected articles, eight are from the editorial stream; the other four and the translation make up the new thematic dossier "Artificial Intelligence and Rights", launched through the STF Call for Papers 1/2023.

In total, 25 authors contribute to Revista Suprema's proposal to promote the dissemination of broad and plural knowledge, reaffirming its importance as a vehicle for the discussion of current and relevant issues. Among them are those highlighted in this issue, such as the impact of the use of technological tools on the quality and speed of legal services and on the daily lives of magistrates, lawyers, and civil servants.

The president of the STF highlights the alignment of the magazine's editorial line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, insofar as it contributes, among other things, to promoting the plural production of knowledge and fostering inclusive and quality education. "One of Suprema's pillars is making its content available free of charge and digitally, in light of its commitment to disseminating studies and knowledge to legal professionals, researchers, teachers, students, and civil society," she says.

Texts on the use of AI in Law

The papers presented in the Journal provide up-to-date reflections on topics ranging from the de-judicialization of executions to the conceptual and jurisprudential examination of defensive democracy. They also analyze disciplinary prisons applied to state military students and various aspects of the use of Artificial Intelligence in Law.

Selection according to Capes standards

The articles are selected according to the scientific standards defined by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes). In this system, the texts are assessed by at least two external reviewers, maintaining the confidentiality of both the reviewers and the authors, in order to ensure impartiality and the legitimacy of the selection process
